Jon and I are currently wrapping up an eventful summer in Houston and preparing our home for fall. Although we have a busy season lined up, it’s also a great time for us to reset and relax. My clients are also spending more time at home with their friends and family, so our current project queue is inspired by gatherings and requests to totally redesign spaces and update for the holidays! Here are some of my go-to trends and tricks for fall 2018.

  1. Keep it simple with neutrals.

I truly enjoy catering to my clients’ design goals. Many of my clients like to ease into fall with the help of a calming living space. Color choice is an easy way to get the job done! Designing without contrasting color can be difficult, but our team can leverage neutral earth tones to leave your space more vibrant than muted by focusing on textures, shapes, and unique decorations.

  1. Design a gallery wall.

Gallery walls are fun projects and a good opportunity to incorporate my client’s personality into the design. Family photos with neat frames, artwork, family heirlooms, and other mixed-medium pieces are all fair game! With proper planning and an intentional layout, adding a gallery wall to your living room is a practical project to take on this season.

  1. Mismatch intentionally.

For clients who want to focus their design budget on a specific room, we have the time and flexibility to take some creative risks. Mix-and-match designing can produce unexpected, extravagant results if properly executed. Let’s explore contrasting color palettes, textures, fabrics, and themes to develop a design unlike any other!

  1. Find a statement piece.

Find a one-of-a-kind statement piece from a local flea market or estate sale to design around. Sometimes my clients already have a family heirloom they love, but they don’t know how to incorporate it into their living space! Once you have a statement piece, let it tell a story that informs the rest of your interior’s design. This reverse approach is always a fun challenge that produces an extraordinary end result.

  1. Go to More Than Just the Container Store.

While we love functional, organized spaces as much as any other homeowner, we encourage our clients to get creative with their storage techniques. Use trays, colorful woven baskets, boxes, ottomans, and other decorative storage accessories to add color and contrast to your space.
